About Therapy

505174123Therapy is more than talking.

In therapy, there will be more than just talking. There will be listening, problem-solving, and setting goals. Getting to know one another and developing trust is significant to the therapeutic process. But that is not all!

We will do activities that bring insight and greater clarity to your current situation. These activities might include the sand tray or drawing something visual based on a prompt that I provide. These individualized activities will further the healing process and make counseling more enjoyable.

I will create an atmosphere that is nonjudgmental and safe. You will feel honored in your beliefs, culture, and history in this space. We will work together on your goals at the pace that feels right to you.

Throughout the process, you will feel accepted and respected as we work together, no matter what path your life has taken.

Finding answers is our goal.

One of my core beliefs in counseling is that you, the client, hold the answers you seek.

My job is to help you discover those answers and honor them as we work together. You will find your power and worth and will come to like yourself.

The important thing to remember is that you will have the tools to navigate life more successfully and joyfully.

I use a collection of toys in child-centered play therapy. While working with children and adolescents, I use creative art-focused activities.

There are putty and smooth stones if your hands need something to do while we talk. You are unique, and my approach to therapy with you will be unique based on your needs, interests, and goals.

Lessons learned in life guide my approach.

My life has been impacted by workaholism, narcissism, working through marital difficulties, separation, divorce, depression, anxiety, bullying, kids with severe mental health challenges, single parenthood, and dating after divorce.

I’ve been through some tough stuff and found joy on the other side. I know how challenging family life can be, and I have the tools to help you and your kids get through it.

About Me

AdminHelping others is my passion.

In my early 20s, I realized I wanted to be a counselor. My passions are talking with people one-on-one and enjoying deep, complicated, and enlightening conversations.

I fancy myself a mind opener and love seeing people think of things in new ways – especially those that bring hope, lightness, and relief. I have a big heart, feel things deeply, and value people for who they are right now in this exact moment – full of flaws, weaknesses, mistakes, and all.

Enhancing my professional training is an ongoing process.

After several years of being a stay-at-home mom to my five kids (ages 11-21) and then a middle-school teacher, I enrolled in graduate school at Texas Woman’s University, where I received a Master of Science in Counseling and Development. This degree emphasized Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Professional School Counseling.

Currently, I have a license as a Professional Counselor Associate and am in the process of becoming a Registered Play Therapist under my fantastic supervisor, Dr. Kate Halinski.

When I am not working…

…I enjoy mountain biking, skiing, wakeboarding, camping, reading (send your book recs my way), listening to music, dancing, and just about anything outside.

Three of my kids are still living at home, so a lot of my time is spent with them doing all the things a mom does – cooking, cleaning, taxi-ing, listening, cuddling, and attending band concerts. A favorite part of my day is reading with my girls each night. Anne of Green Gables is a hit right now!
